Here's another case of "just pick one"... I have SO many! I found this flower appealing as its petals looked like nothing I'd ever seen before! I didn't get the name, but it was a large bush and covered with this fascinating blooms! It looked old fashioned to me, so I gave it that finish.
Just gorgeous! It looks like a huge poppy but I know it's not. I had a large bush in my last garden with large red flowers which were similar - Rosa Rugosa - think. It had the most wonderful perfume! It's not that either! I will stop guessing now ! Lol! Lovely - fav!
Well my friend this is a Cistus or Rock Rose. Quite a few different species but a shrub that likes dry hot climes and we see it a lot when we visit the Mediterranean area. The petals are papery as you describe and the flowers last not much more than a day. Your shot looks just like the one in my book!! :-)
@lynnz Thanks, Lynn, and thanks for reminding me to thank Cherrill! I suppose you know we were away with the grands, and drove back today, so I have some catching up to do!
@Cherrill Well, you're too wonderful to share that information! I DID read this to Ken the next morning, and said that plant was in the Mediterranean region of the garden! Spot on! I see now it's quite like a poppy petal, but I was just taken with the ...well..crepeyness of it! Though short-lived, it's nice that they grow on bushes in profusion!
@pamknowler Thanks, Pam! (We're back home now...busy last couple of days!) Cherrill identified it, and it was just as she said! I, later, thought, too, how like a poppy petal it is...I was so taken by the delicate beauty of it!
