A few years ago a bushfire swept through these mountains. The trees are now regenerating. It made for a striking landscape throughout the snowy mountains, as the burnt tree trunks had been washed clean and stood as bones amongst green undergrowth fast catching up.
I would like some critique on this shot as a landscape. Is it any good? Honest opinion :-)
I am not good at landscapes, so take my feedback with a grain of salt. I like the layers of the green and the bare trees and the shape of the hill is interesting.
The only thing is that the sky is a bit washed out, and I am wondering if you could have done some bracketing so as to expose for the sky correctly, and then merged them? Your thoughts?
Also, perhaps something in the foreground would help to give it some depth, but this may not have been possible.
I love the remains of the dead tress, they are striking against the new growth. I don't have any experience taking landscape shot but I think this is wonderful.
I like how the grayish tones mingle with the green. Lovely t(h)ree layers. I agree with Janelle about putting something in the foreground to create more depth and also a bit more 'bite' for the sky. In general I love this photo!
I really like the contrast of old and new as well. As others have said, I'm wondering if taken with a blue sky you might have achieved even more contrast with the burnt trees. I really like it though Abhijit.
Love the dramatic shadows and the burnt trees make for a wonderfully surreal landscape. As for the sky, I'm wondering if washing it out even more might add to the stark, somber feeling you've created.
I fav'd it before seeing you wanted feedback. For me the high contrast, composition , and almost surreal nature of the shot made me want to study it like a piece of art.
I think the contrast between the old and the new trees is very captivating. As some others have mentioned, a less burnt out sky would enhance this even further I think, but i don't have any real landscape experience. I also like the light shadow play on tne trees and wonder if this could be slightly more defined?
A wonderful shot Abhijit and you've done really great with the rule of thirds. I would possibly try leaving only a very slight bit of the sky in, as you would still have your 3 levels, but I'm not sure if it would work?? Love the contrasts! :-))
I am no expert...but I really like this...you have caught the contrast so clearly and the sunlight on them really enhances it. The sky is a little pale, but sometimes it is!
I also like the contrast between old, burnt trees and the new green growth. I do also think that a slightly darker sky would probably enhance the burnt trees and add to the contrast. As SarahP (@sarahp) suggested maybe try to crop some of the sky out.
I think it's good - there's a great contrast between the new growth and the old trees. It's the sort of landscape not seen too often and for that reason it's all the more captivating. It's tricky to judge without being there but I would have tried to widen the shot a little but of course this might have reduced the old/new contrast. I really like this as an image :)
I love the contrast between life and death. The sunlight highlighting the new growth is stunning. The only critique I would have is the clipping in the sky. Beautiful landscape.
The only thing is that the sky is a bit washed out, and I am wondering if you could have done some bracketing so as to expose for the sky correctly, and then merged them? Your thoughts?
Also, perhaps something in the foreground would help to give it some depth, but this may not have been possible.
Thanks everyone for the support and critique :)
