Another from my Lake District trip I'm afraid -- I've realised just how many shots I'd never bothered to process!
This is from the shore of Coniston Water, looking towards Peel Island. The rain was coming down quite steadily, so I had to keep wiping the lens clear of drops.
I'm a British software developer and photographer living in Vancouver, BC. I mainly photograph landscapes, cityscapes, night scenes, and water.
If you're interested in any...
I love that you didn't put the dock smack dab in the middle, which is typical of these types of shots... did you use Silver Efex Pro on this? The processing is beautiful
Jeff, I have Silver Efex Pro but didn't use it on this shot -- I did most of it in Adobe Camera Raw as I like the black and white conversion that does, very flexible for adjusting the colour channels. Added a software grad ND filter to the sky (in addition to the real filter I used when taking the shot), and used the clarity and black level sliders to give it some punch, as well as adding a bit of vignetting.
After importing to Photoshop I used Quick Mask to select the hills in the background and the posts at the end of the jetty, and applied a curves adjustment layer to lighten them up a tad. Also applied some darkening at the very bottom of the image, as I felt it helped. I could have done both of those in Camera Raw as well, as it happens.
The b&w really brings out the texture in the posts. Love the sky in this. :)
I did wonder what happend to all the shots you took in the Lake District. ;)
