A visible gas pump at an old gas station in Cannonville, UT, just a few miles outside Bryce Canyon National Park.
This pump probably dates from around the 1920s. Visible gas pumps are so called because the customer could see the gasoline inside the glass tank at the top of the pump.
Different grades of gasoline, as well as gasoline from different oil companies, had colouring added, allowing customers to verify the grade and brand they were buying. The level in the glass tank would drop as the gasoline was pumped, showing that the correct amount had been dispensed.

Fantastic find! Made me smile. Don't think I've heard of a visible gas pump before. I love the idea of coloured petrol - bit like red diesel I suppose. :)
