Most of my trip through the US consisted of unbroken sunshine and blue skies, but in Utah and Idaho there were a few days where a midday storm was quite common.
The smoke from the wildfires in in the area created some stunning beams of light when the clouds broke, and the sun lit up the distant hills while keeping the nearby ridge in the shade.
This was taken in Idaho when I was in the middle of getting lost, due to my belief that I couldn't possibly need sat-nav to get to a well-signposted national monument. I discovered shortly after taking this photo that I was wrong!
I'm a British software developer and photographer living in Vancouver, BC. I mainly photograph landscapes, cityscapes, night scenes, and water.

Wow. That is quite beautiful. I love those rays and that light.
My husband always says he's not lost, that he's just finding a new way. It's quite annoying really. You didn't say though, if you made it or not.
@mstipe Thank you! Fortunately I was able to adjust my trajectory before reaching Montana! (Not that I wouldn't like to go, it just wasn't on the list for this trip!)
What are the hills in the distance?
I believe they're part of the appropriately-named Lost River Range.
