366 - This shot is of a poster that I was given many years ago when I worked as a production planner for Nestle and was responsible for 2 finger Kit Kat. The poster itself is now a little tired, and the colours are a bit faded, but it does remind me of some fascinating times! It is also an interesting early example of digital manipulation in an advertising poster - there were only three wagons used, and the locomotive front was yellow. The shot was taken quite close to here, on the North Yorkshire Moors railway between Pickering and Grosmont.
I said yesterday that I would reveal my future plans today. I've had an almost overwhelming desire for quite a while to have a day without taking a photo. 365 is quite a heavy commitment. However I would miss it enormously if I gave up completely. My younger daughter has also missed 365 since completing her project in December 2012, so we discussed doing a combined project. My wife and older daughter want to join in too, so the four of us have decided to start a new project. It goes under the name Fisher Family ( @Fishers ) and Lucy has posted the first photo on there today ( http://365project.org/fishers/365/2013-03-06 ). I hope that you will all take a look and consider following and commenting.
This project will continue on an occasional basis, but first I will have a break. Thank you all for your tremendous support and help.
What a marvellous idea! Will definitely have a look... I am just a newbie, but my husband is certainly not impressed by the time I am spending on this!! Would be lovely if we could do a combined project, but does not look likely at this point!
Wonderful shot. I wonder how you did this - did you change the colours? It's the end of my second year on 365 today and I feel a bit like you do. I'm loathe to give it up but I'll miss it. I've decided to take a break and then not to post so often. Sob, sob.
A nice shot to go with the narrative. Enjoy your break I'm coming to realise just how hard this can be at times. Thanks for all your support will follow you on your combined project
I love this shot and its perfect for 'ending' this project and starting a new one, which is a great idea. I have no idea what I'll do. I will probably take April off because it is an extremely busy month for me, posting when I can and just see how it evolves from there.
A lovely picture, Ian, and a good way to end. I like the idea of a family effort and will follow you all! (What will happen when you each have a great photo for the same day?)
The POV is an eye catcher and the bold red color against the pastel sky looks awesome. I bet you'll be the first family of four doing a 365 project together. good luck and I will follow your new adventure.
Ian, I will certainly miss your extremely nice comments but I very much understand the time it takes to do this project. I'm in the midst of a big work (for money) project and haven't had the time to do 365 properly but am determined to finish! Look forward to seeing your work now and then. Thanks for being a friend!
Thank you Judith - the colour changes were on the poster, I just took a shot of it as it is. I hope your break from 365 helps. It's a lot to ask posting a shot a day, which is one of the reasons we thought a family project would be good. I hope you get chance to have a look. It would be nice to remain in contact.
Thank you Malc - it is a serious commitment, but is well worth it. I've learnt so much and met so many interesting people. The longer hours of daylight give much more scope for shots, so that helps too.
Thank you Janet - at the moment bot Lucy and I can use our solo projects as an overflow, not sure what will happen if Katharine and Louise become addicted too!
Thank you Marg - it is a heavy commitment to do this, but it does bring it's own rewards. I feel I've got so much out of it, I can strongly recommend perseverance. Having said that, our family project will take the pressure off me - but I would really miss this if I gave up altogether!
Thank you Sterling, it's been a pleasure to share part of the year. I hope you will find time to have a look at our family project. Most of my shots for the foreseeable future will be posted on there.
This is a fab pic....can you imagine if it were for real???
Take a break, second year round I think we all feel more comfortable breaking, bending and adapting the rules to fit our lives and to help us get our photography where we want it...will be watching the Family!
Thank you Ruth - I will be continuing to follow you from our family project - it's been a real pleasure spending the past few months looking at your photos!
Thank you Laura - it will be fun to do a project as a family, and it should produce a more varied range of shots. I hope that you will drop by there sometime - http://365project.org/fishers/365/2013-03-11
A fun shot, Ian. That particular stretch of railway brings back some happy family memories for me. Thanks for all the support you've given me during my first couple of months of 365 - it's been really good to have your thoughtful comments, and I've very much enjoyed your historical shots and the commentaries accompanying them. Have been away for a week, but will check out your new family project right now.
Thank you Molly for all your comments on my efforts here, and I'm pleased to see that you are following us on the family project - we have followed you too, and I've enjoyed going through your beautiful photos of your trip!
I've been out of the picture for a couple of weeks and in that time you've finished your project! Congratulations! I'm now following the family project
Thank you Vesna - I haven't left completely, because we have a family project - http://365project.org/fishers/365. Unfortunately, both Katharine and I have elderly and unwell parents and much of our time is spent visiting them, so it's unlikely I will not be able to restart this project anytime soon. Thank you for being kind enough to remember me.
Thank you Jacqui, glad you like it.
Thank you William - I started working for Rowntree Mackintosh, and then Nestle took over! I spent much of my working life with those two companies.
