It was a touching and sober event by the war memorial in the village, marking the day Italy was liberated by the Allies.
The former Mayor, Ivo Carrari (with the tricolour band) said a few words, as did Greta, of the National Partisan Association (the long-haired lady next to Ivo), and our priest Don Giuseppe (far left).
Nice capture of the somber ceremony. The war was terrible for the folks of this town and the rest of Italy. I'm guessing that since they aren't pictured, there are no survivors of that time in the village who were able to make it.
Beautiful shot and scene. So many thousands of people die for their country and are forgotten immediate after ecept for their close relatives. Memorials like this give a chance to those who ignore what happened in the past to understand what sacrifices our ancestors did for us.
Today, 25 April in Australia and New Zealand, it is ANZAC Day when we commemorate all fallen service men and women.
