364 - A cool but bright sunny day, ideal conditions for a nice walk in the hills, so to go with that idea here is a shot of some of the walking guides that fill one of our bookshelves.
I love the kind of guide where there is not only an attractive route to walk, but where there is a lot of background information on the route - history, geology, flora and fauna etc. I really do like to learn as I walk, and to record things of interest with my camera.
Sadly I did relatively few upland walks in 2012, but I aim to try harder this year. There are so many places to explore, and I really must get on with it!
One of the signs of spring that I look forward to is the publication of timetables for leisure bus services to the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, and this year the timetable to the Dales has 4 bus services from York, which connect with a variety of other routes on the way, so large areas of the Dales are accessible, and some excellent linear walks between bus routes are possible. Now where did I put those walking boots?
Great collection of books. I can find all routes here on internet ,for walking and cycling . Nearly all routes here have a name and number and are signposted on the roads.
Good collection of interesting books. Some of my favourite walking books are the bird watching guides. They have good walks and tell you what birds you may see
Wow looks like you have so many places to explore. My goal this year is to go on some community walks here in Edmonton. I have a series of maps that the city provides
Thank you all for your comments and encouragement. I'm glad that you picked up the hint here that I like walking! The collection of walking books has been built up slowly over a period of some 35 years, and I've had many excellent days out with their help. There is only one book here where I've done all the walks - the Isle of Man Coastal Path - but I'm well on the way through some of the others. I know there are lots of walks online now, but I wouldn't want to part with these, they've become close friends and walking companions!
Thank you Colin - I think it would take a lot more than 365 days - I've been using some of these for over 30 years! - and the only one so far that I've completed is the Isle of Man Coastal Path!
