Not a subject I'm any good at, nor one which I have the equipment for, but when you go on a photowalk in Queen Elizabeth Park then it's hard to ignore all the flowers!
I have no idea what it is, but it looked pretty! If anyone does know, please leave a comment. Edit: Thanks to Larry's comment, it's almost certainly a
Blue Star Aster.
Taken with my 50mm f/1.8 lens and extension tube. A total of 9 focus-stacked photos to get detail throughout the head of the flower.
Behind on commenting again, apologies -- will try and catch up this week!
I'm a British software developer and photographer living in Vancouver, BC. I mainly photograph landscapes, cityscapes, night scenes, and water.
If you're interested in any...
beautiful colours and details - and wow to the effort involved with stacking 9 photos - it's the technique people are using to get amazing insect macros on Flickr - but often 150 shots
@shannew I was regretting not having my Magic Lantern card with me so I could just let it go, it will automatically adjust the focus and take the shots for you.
I did do a 25 shot one (manually) on another flower but it wasn't as good overall.
Love the vibrant colours. I'd love to try focus-stacking (I guess you're using CS for that?)
Bizarrely, @haytor & I were just discussing Magic Lantern & it's on my list of things to investigate what it is as I keep coming across it on time lapse stuff.
And no, you can't go back to landscapes now. I think you need to try taking a picture of ... some people. :D
@humphreyhippo Don't get too excited -- it's not available for either of your cameras :(
The new 2.3 version is awesome for timelapse photography once you get the settings right -- I'm working on a few different clips at the moment I'm hoping to put together.
@abirkill Yeah I saw that. :(
Still, I'm considering getting another body if one comes up at the right price, purely for timelapse so I'll keep it in mind. I don't know how long the 1000D will survive me. ;)
