On Saturday evening the clouds cleared and we had a fairly clear sunset, so I headed over to North Vancouver to take a shot of downtown Vancouver from across the water.
Unfortunately, I discovered when I arrived that the Iron Vassilis, a 229 metre Kamsarmax cargo ship (so named because it is the largest size of vessel able to dock at the port of Kamsar in Guinea, West Africa), had chosen to moor directly between where I was and downtown. Unsurprisingly, over 10,000 tons of steel in between the camera and the view does not a great photograph make!
Accordingly, I decided the shoot in the opposite direction, and walked along the imaginatively named 'The Pier' to get a view back towards North Vancouver. I particularly liked the blue lights set into the walkway, which matched the colour of the sky as blue hour set in.
Being a weekend, it was quite late before I managed to get a shot without too many people in it, so this is a 5-shot HDR photo with exposures ranging from 15 seconds to 4 minutes.
I'm a British software developer and photographer living in Vancouver, BC. I mainly photograph landscapes, cityscapes, night scenes, and water.

Beautiful. Your thumbnail calendar looks like a rainbow.
Somebody thought he was a genius naming the pier. "I can see it now, they'll come from miles away."
