Happy Christmas to all my friends and followers -- I can't believe I have 765 now! Thanks so much for all the amazing comments, favs, discussions, and all the times you've got my photos onto the trending, popular or top twenty pages!
I remain in complete awe at anyone who is able to do a true 365project and post a photo every day, something which I can't see myself ever being able to keep up for a month, let alone a year (or more for some of you!)
For my 'Christmas card', here's a photo of Jack Poole Plaza in Vancouver at Christmas. The mostly-overcast sky was lit up briefly by the setting sun, with the warm glow on the horizon and the light on the bottom of the clouds visible.
I had to get down on my knees to frame the four Christmas trees underneath the Olympic Cauldron, drawing some looks from passers-by! To get the full height of the buildings in, I took this as a 2x2 panoramic image, and bracketed multiple exposures to capture the dynamic range.
I'm a British software developer and photographer living in Vancouver, BC. I mainly photograph landscapes, cityscapes, night scenes, and water.
If you're interested in any...
beautifully composed and processed image... you are such an amazing and inspirational photographer... you may not do a shot a day, but the work that goes into each and every one of your images is probably more than i put in in a week or even a month! and thank you so much for all your great advice, helpful explanations and information and support... Merry Christmas to you and all the best for 2014!
Fabulous shot, as always. As so many others have stated, you are truly inspirational. Your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise, as well as the explanations you provide for your set up and execution of your photos, is greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas, and thanks!
I agree with what has been said so far: I like the way you comment and explain the process of building the photo and the technical aspects of it. Also, the helpuful way you come to rescue when technical problems arise or when you conjur up new ingenious tricks that make our life here on 365 easier. Thank you, Alexis.
This photo is so clear and well composed, with stunning light and detail.
Happy holidays to you and your dear ones!
someday, i shall learn how to do this stitching panorama and bracketing thingies. :-) this is fabulous, like always, alexis. you are a great teacher and a true inspiration. and i am in constant awe of your wonderful knowledge of the craft and admire your unselfish assistance to our problems and dilemmas. as evidenced by the comments above, we are very thankful for your presence here and your wisdom. and may i tell you, half of what i know now in photography, i learned from reading your advice? obviously i haven't read all but, I'm sure i'll get there eventually. here's hoping you had a wonderful Christmas celebration with your loved ones and may the new year bring you all the best life has to offer. merry Christmas!
I'm so glad I've found you. What a wonderful talent you are. I've FAV'd a couple of your pics and I'm going to follow you from now on. Thanks, your work gives me something to aim for'; just an amateur.
Belated happy Christmas Alexis, I've just completed year 1 and wanted to say a huge thanks for the support and advice you have so freely given this year. Top of my bucket list for year 2 is to capture a scene like you do (easy for you, scary for me), but hoping to use London as my 'place'
Alexis, you have been very kind and generous over the year with your knowledge and assistance. I admire your work and your teaching ability. It is a great honor to have you even look at a photo, let alone fave it. Thank you, sincerely.
This is gorgeous...even more so viewed large and on black so you can take in all the details. I am going to do another year of photo a day posting. I have had a break, and am thinking I will like it. We do it (well, I do it) by most days, just posting some blah pic and moving on. But it is keeping a diary of that day, so that is cool. That is why I want to do it. I hope you had a Merry Christmas!
For solid filters, you'll not go far wrong with the B+W multicoated ND filters. Look at the 103M model for a 3-stop filter, or the 110M model for a 10-stop filter. If you want to spend less, you can get the non-multicoated versions (same model numbers without the trailing M), although they will be more prone to reflections and flare when shooting into bright light sources.
Wonderful Christmas shot! And of course much belated Christmas wishes to you. Thank you so much for the comments and favs you've bestowed on my pictures this past year. I can't tell you how much it means to have someone with your skills, talents and expertise pay attention to my point and shoot photos! Your encouragement has helped me to move toward improving what I can with what I have. Thanks so much and best wishes in 2014!
Love the twilight cityscape you've captured! Lots of great elements here! Although I haven't been on 365 as often, I look for certain photographers, and I have been missing your work! Hope all is well!
Your photography is so amazing ....can't say how your are appreciated. Thank you so much again for taking the time to keep us posted of our PP appearance. It's always a thrill to see your postings!! You must be busy because I haven't seen any of your postings later. Thanks again and hope you are having a good year!!
