I've been on the road every day this week, which has given me several hours of sky watching (I keep my eye on the road too, but traffic out here is pretty light). This beautiful hawk was sitting on a pole near our mailbox, but took off as soon as I stopped. As Patterson points out, this image came about from that "special connection to chance." It is extremely cropped, but I was still able to get a fairly decent image of him (or her) as he/she soared off. Frankly, I was quite surprised to see how beautiful these birds are from the underside. Love the markings.
