I've always called these hawk moths, though some refer to them as sphinx moths or hummingbird moths. There are a group of them feeding on the lilacs in the evening, which, along with the butterflies and miller moths, keep the cats entertained. Try as I might I could not get a clear image. They are constantly in motion! However, I did like the translucent wings created by its motion.
I agree, the translucent wings are beautiful and add to the softness of the shot. Great colours too.
