@annied They are not really pets, but not feral. They are a bit wild and wary of most people. They hunt rodents in the feedyard, windbreaks, and around the haystacks. I have a soft spot for them, though, and they have food and water in the yard, so most sleep either in the barn, the old chicken coop, the old graineries, the quonsets, or wherever they find a warm spot. We had a population explosion a few years ago when an employee's wife dropped off three feral females and youngest began taming kittens as fast as she could collect them. I now have caught and neutered or spayed all I know of but one, and I'm hoping to catch her before spring.
@emrob Spaying and neutering made such a huge difference in tensions and fighting. They are now all pretty friendly with each other. The big black and white guy is best buds with the dark yellow one on the left. Sometimes they remind me of a pair of teenage boys the way they saunter around together.
@creampuff I have been amazed at how peaceful they become once neutered or spayed. Squabbles still occur, but the terrible cat fights are mostly a thing of the past. They are kind of like a bunch of kids ... different groupings get along better and hang out together.
Oh, so fabulous. I wish I had access to this many kitties, all so gorgeous in their own way. I enjoyed reading all your stories about who gets along and how they changed once spayed or neutered. I realize they aren't pets in the normal sense, barn cats are more like workers in my mind, but they sure sound like an important part of your farm.
I just love all your beautiful furbabies. Their coats are so long and fluffy, I just want to snuggle with them. I would love to have more cats but my hubby threatens to leave if I go above 3. You are blessed with all these barn cat beauties.
April I'm Jules and I'm your challenge partner for this week. Since I'm a newbie and you've have a tons more experience than I do, I had to do some research. My challenge for you is to take a double exposure photo on your camera, with indoor inanimate objects but flowers can't be used. The idea came from another 365er and like yourself has plenty of experience of taking incredible photos. Good luck, I wish you all the best and I look forward to seeing your work.
@juleshoogstraanderson Thank you for the challenge. Would it be ok to do the double exposure during editing? My camera doesn't have the ability to do an in-camera double exposure. I'd like to have one that does someday though.
