Branding is as much a social event as it is a functional work day. Young and old share in the work, with the elders chuckling as youngsters throw themselves on calves, and then strolling on in with the iron, needles, and knife before the calf is turned loose to run back to mama. The day always ends with lots of beer and lots of stories.
