I've been anticipating the Great American Eclipse for years, and it's almost here! We live in Nebraska within the line of totality. Knowing our August weather, I am fully anticipating cloudless skies for the event. I've got my camera filter ready. Purchased a pack of a dozen viewing glasses, and even got three sets of filters for various binoculars. While local towns are gearing up for an influx of thousands, I plan to avoid the crowds and head out to the pasture. Prime spot right now is atop a rise so we can watch the shadow sweep across the landscape. Can't wait for totality!
So exciting... I am in the midwest, too, and within driving distance to the line of totality. Good luck with shooting it. I am hoping to just grab the big moment.
Fun collection, April. We'll only have 99% totality (lots of people will be heading south 60 miles for totality). We're staying close to home -- the Dept of Transportation is predicting the worst traffic we've ever seen. I've been hearing that it will be important to get a special filter for your camera if you're hoping to use it. I understand the best thing to do, though, is just enjoy the eclipse :-)
@cathieg Alliance is anticipating between 10,000 to 15,000 visitors for the event. Can you imagine? I haven't heard Scottsbuff's predicted numbers. I kind of want to go to town just to people watch, but I'm worried about traffic and such. We've all been told to get our groceries early, and then wait out the crowds. I am hoping to get one shot of the "diamond ring" (I bought a filter ... just need to practice) and then a shot of the corona during totality, but I'm not going to let the camera detract from the experience.
@rosiekerr Good luck to you too. I would really just like to get a few shots of the corona ... though I have a filter for the "diamond ring" and maybe Bailey's beads.
