Much to my delight several monarchs were chasing each other in the windbreak this evening. Thanks to Hope Jennings @mzzhope (now on Instagram) I recognized the top one as a male by the spots on his wings. It seems a bit late in the year for such cavorting, but it was fun to watch the flitting and flirting.
