In response to an image I posted recently which represented my trusty camera having a meltdown, Kali @kali66 suggested looking deep in my camera menu to find settings I didn't know I had, or have never bothered to use, for my Get Pushed challenge this week. She thought perhaps my camera needed to feel I should get to know her "truly madly deeply!"
Well, after spending way too many hours probing her innards, it turns out the only thing I could find that I've never used (with the exception of video) is the in-camera "Creative" settings. I mean, I always rely on post-processing of some kind to produce any of that artsy-fartsy stuff. So, after shooting a hundred images of a hundred subjects, I can honestly say that while I have indeed become more intimate with her, I think some things are best kept private...
The subject I settled on, because I'm done trying to find something cool, is my pc monitor workspace, complete with ever-so-mature cartoon figurines which have resided nearby for about 30 years. The real challenge was to resist using Photoshop, or whatever, to ETlivinSOOI. This work of art -cough- was shot using the never-before-used "Watercolor" mode on my Oly E-M1iii.
@kali66 Hi Kali, well this provided a challenge to be sure. There must be a successful way to use these settings, but I sure didn't come across any this week! I shall have to revisit this challenge at some point...
hahaha unusual image to come out of the camera. it took me about 5 years to find some of my settings! well you certainly did the hard yards, i hope your camera rewards you with wonderful images from now on!
There are so many features on my camera that I’ve never used. Some I know about but have ignored (for various reasons) others I’ve probably never noticed. Some I have no intention of ever using, for instance, my camera will shoot video, in which I have no interest.
One purpose they all serve is to keep me from lusting after upgrading to a newer camera. I tell myself that, until I am using all my camera has to offer, it makes no sense to look at something newer and even more complicated.
Despite your tribulations with the hidden mysteries of your camera settings, I’m faving you for this psychedelic masterwork coupled with your hilarious narrative and tags 😀
Very cool! I’d like to use watercolor mode in post production, but Snapseed doesn’t have it, right? Do you know what program or app I can use to mess with that? I like your shot!
Whimsical artsy image! Funny commentary.I've barely scratched the
surface when it comes to using all that my cameras have to offer. When my OM 1 gets back from repairs, I 'll have to delve into it.
My camera has a menu? hehe I think we can all relate to the undesirable task of probing the depths of the camera's menu to see what's in there. And actually I think it's so much easier to find those effects in a post-processing program anyway so why worry about which button, which subset, which whatever to make an "artistic" image in camera? Yeah, my stubborn streak is showing. Anyway- this fanciful faux watercolor reminds me of the album cover challenge- there must be some random "artist" and "title" out there waiting for it- so don't delete it! Ok, I'm walking...
