We had heard about a fox that was in possible distress due to poisoning who may have kits so went in search of them a few days ago. Tonight we spotted the 4 little ones playing around their den and the parental unit (probably mama) eventually showed up behind us, wary to pass. Thankfully, she looked to be in good health because as Red Foxes are not endemic to the area, trapping her would result in her being euthanized rather than rehabilitated. Her kits, being too young to be on their own at this stage, would be relocated somewhere in captivity, possibly as ambassadors to a wildlife organization. Not the worst fate, I suppose, (in fact they would probably live longer) but I believe staying in their natural world is best. ...and if you ever have a chance to watch fox pups play, I highly recommend it--an absolutely enchanting encounter!
Oh how cute! I'm so glad the mama looked well and the kits were fine. It's always best to let nature be nature and help only when absolutely necessary. Great shot!
