Before spotting this magnificent eagle, we were treated to a rare sighting of an oriole (not sure which variety). It had flown into a nearby tree and was teasing us with brief appearances only to flit away every time the cameras were trained on him. After some time, we finally moved on to other things including this big bad bird with its meal in a tree some distance away.
Upon getting home and reviewing my photos, I was stunned to find the oriole in several of my pics with the eagle!!! I of course didn't notice him while shooting, but had been looking back to the tree we had seen him in from time to time just in case. WHOA!!
That is incredible, the shot and the story and actually seeing the evidence - why would a bird risk being so close to such a bad guy?! It would have been a great shot in itself, but this really adds to it. Wonderful texture on the tree.
