A fun evening with good friends at Santa Margarita Lake--my first attempt at shooting the Way. The light from the parking lot we were shooting from was super bright and we thought may hinder our exposures, but it did a nice job of light painting on the opposite shore!
I've only ever seen the Milky Way in photographs... I've never seen it with the naked eye. I wish I could capture it but I wouldn't even know where to go or where to point my camera to do it. Fav
@jsw0109 Thanks, Jeff! You need to be in a place where there's virtually no other light sources (city lights, moon) and no moisture (clouds, fog, etc.) in the air. Then you would for sure see it--and the camera will pick up the light even better!! :-D
@aikiuser I'll start looking at things like relative humidity then.... there's usually some type of moisture in the air around here but we do have nights where there is almost none.... and I know a few places I can go that may help me be able to see it that I have recently discovered that are away from light and not immediately surrounded by trees
Instant Fav. I've never seen the Milky Way this close. It seems when I can see it, it is much further away and not nearly so many starts. Great capture.
Outstanding shot! I've found it difficult to get good night shots but I think that's mainly due to the light pollution near us. You must be lucky enough to live far away from any major cities!
Love love love this. Utterly amazing. only wish I could take something like this, but managing to find a corner of the UK away from light would be something of a challenge I think.
FAV and an absolutely stunning one at that. I'm glad that @lbluejaye8 started the FAV of 2013 thread so I could see this. I wish you hadn't stopped posting because I wanted to follow you . . .
