Today's challenge word is 'experiment'. I did one, literally. As I mentioned a few days ago, today saw the last transit of Venus in our lifetimes. I took the day off from my usual job to run outreach astronomy activities with a group from my old job. We had telescope viewing of the transit, a Solar System activity, meteorite handling and I gave five talks to school and public groups. All in all an exhausting but very fulfilling day :)
Excuse the lousy white balance in some of the pics - I had my hands a bit full so it was a wonder I got any pics at all!
Main pic - Just after ingress interior, when Venus (dark dot) appears fully inside the disc of the Sun. (Clockwise from top right) During ingress (Venus is the little dent just next to the little finger shadow), people at the public viewing, during egress x3.
That is sooo cool! I had hoped to watch it- was all set to drive down to the Lehigh Valley to see the sunset, but it was cloudy- so there'd be no seeing the sun after all. It was nice to be able to see the pictures here- and your's is the best so far because you can really see the "circle" of Venus against the sun up close. Great collage for "experiment"!
shows us how small we are in the overall schemes of the universe. this is a great collage and i'm a tad jealous of the people who had witnessed this. we had the same weather as ann's, heavy clouds and there was even a storm.
