Our friends are a reflection of us. These are two good friends of mine celebrating opposite ends of their academic careers. I'm somewhere in the middle of mine :)
Yesterday was the Science graduation ceremonies at the university where I work. One of my best friends, Karen, was awarded her PhD, and Andrew was presented with the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching - very well deserved and overdue! Two other friends also got their PhDs, and several students I taught in the past got their bachelors and honours degrees. I was in the procession, so I got to dress up in my finery too :)
That is a great perspective on a selfless-selfie. I hadn't thought of it, but it is very true! Congratulations to your friends- it was hard enough getting an MDiv. I can't imagine getting one's PhD!
you're an astrophysicist? i didn't know that till now. heck, now i can tell people that i have a friend who's an astrophysicist, i just won't tell them i haven't met you personally. :-) i've known doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, biologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, journalists; i've met senators, authors, congressmen, mayors, the queen, prince charles, princess diana (for real before i came to canada) and some famous sports personalities, but i've never known or interacted with an astrophysicist (and my typing and spelling are really getting tested with that word!). scratch that off my list now. btw, great portrait shot.
