This is from my St John Ambulance jacket - but where does the main part of the logo come from?

I suspect that it's St John's the cross is actually derived from the swiss flag...but I'm always prepared to be wrong

Malta - The Knights of St John first provided care to sick and injured travellers during the Crusades and this is the inspiration for the Emergency Services - Lovely capture of a time and tradition honored device.

I believe that's a Maltese Cross as Elizabeth said. So it stands to reason, it comes from Malta!

The cross is the Maltese Cross but the organization was founded in Great Britain

The 8-pointed cross is a symbol of the Knights of St John who are now synonymous with Malta as is the cross.
