Eggy birdy by alia_801

Eggy birdy

Magic is laying eggs - she laid one a couple of days ago, and today the next one appeared. She builds herself 'nests' out of newspaper to hide in and make little clucky noises while she produces the egg, then spends a while trying to work out what to do with it...
Here's today's nest...
Awww! That is so sweet!

@jld29 She laid two eggs last year, and this is her second egg this year... before that no eggs.

@alia_801 how old is she now? Lucky you that she's not a prolific layer like Saffy :)

How about that! Does she try to hatch them? Or once they are laid is she on to new things? It must be fun to watch her build the "nest".

Magic lays eggs?? Okay. I need to know how she does that. Is it every year? I thought a male bird has to be involved for females to be able to have eggs to lay. Do you let her hatch them and give the babies away? This is a great shot of her by the way. It looks like she wants her privacy while she is laying her eggs!

Such a cute girlie, wonderful shot of her and her laying area.

@prttblues Female birds can lay eggs at any time, if their hormone levels are right - otherwise all eggs that people eat would contain baby chickens! They only turn into baby birds if the eggs are fertilised, and with no boy chickens around, that's not going to happen.

@jld29 She's 7(ish). Last year was the first year she laid any eggs. I don't think there are any more hiding in her tummy, but we'll have to wait another few days to be sure.

@prttblues It looks like there might be more eggs to come - she's still rustling around in the newspaper...
