Sydney Paralympic Medals by alia_801

Sydney Paralympic Medals

Today we visited the Perth Mint. There was a $1M gold coin (face value - the actual value of the gold was more like $56M; we thought of bringing it home, but it weighed several tonnes!), a gold pouring demonstration, some huge nuggets - and some left-over medals from the Sydney Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Personally I thought these Paralympic medals were far nicer than the ones for the main event. The Mint is well worth a visit if you're in Perth.
The medals are beautiful. Lovely shot.

Those are lovely. I can see why you done want a heavy old gold coin gathering dust at home though. The birds are a lovelier form of living gold and never still long enough to gather dust, or heavy enough to weigh you down.

Lovely capture. Very appealing images on the medals.

We visited Perth Mint, (several years ago now-whilst on a visit to see relatives in WA), and agree well worth the visit

They're beautiful and artistic. I'm sure the athletes who they are awarded to really treasure them.

Not very often to have the opportunity to see medals of real gold, nowadays. Must have been a wonderful visit there.
