On such a beautiful day I spent time in the school garden and was lucky enough to have the company of our master science teacher and gardener, Ellen. Here she is showing me a peanut plant. The thin stem or "peg" growing into the ground plays an important part in the development of the peanut. Here is a basic explanation:
The peanut plant flowers bloom for only around half a day. Several days later the stem will grow down into the soil. After the plant has sprouted, the peanuts will ripen in around eight to ten weeks. The entire peanut plant life cycle takes around one year.
