Make New Friends, But Keep the Old

Wendy and I have been friends since third grade when I moved to the little town of Redding and the teacher assigned her to be my guide. Through the years and miles our friendship has endured. She and her husband made a stop flying from Connecticut on their way to Charlottesville, VA for a family wedding. John and I took them on a drive-by tour of Richmond, including the state capitol, St. John's church (where Patrick Henry gave his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech) Monument Avenue and then stopped for a visit to my school. We ended the evening in Carytown -- my favorite neighborhood -- with dinner at my favorite restaurant. John took this picture in front of a flower stall on Cary Street. It was great to see them in person after years of phone calls, e-mail and FB comments. We hadn't actually been face to face since Meg's wedding in 2001.
Great group shot

What a treasure -- and the title reminded me of the song we used to sing in Brownies!
