Wow! I followed your link, and find these just beautiful! I've heard of the shadow play, and seen pictures of the shadows, but never saw the actual puppets!

I never knew that the puppets were decorated, but just thought that they were cutouts to make the shadows.

nice to know that Indonesian shadow puppets had crossed the ocean to America...thank you Allison for sharing this in 365...and hope you don't mind my additional information here, that it's true what you had written in your other photo that the shadow puppets in Indonesia, particularly in Central Java, is probably one of the oldest continuous traditions of story-telling in the world...and the puppets are decorated with great detailed...
