This mysterious device situated at the edge of the lawn outside the school cafeteria always seems to be open. But what does that mean: Open for business? Open to new experiences? Open Sesame? I sure would like to know. I guess I'll just have to keep an open mind.
It looks like it could be some type of valve. Perhaps it is a feed for natural gas to be pumped into an underground tank that is no longer functional. It will be fun to discover what it is!
The wise one here thought it had something to do with fire hydrants/fire safety since it was colored red; I, not the wise one, thought it might be something more electrical since there appears to be a circuit breaker in the window. Well? Inquiring minds want to know.
OK...I was a firefighter when I was younger sooo...This is called a P.I.V. valve. It's main function is to allow the sprinkler system to be turned on or off for testing. The window just tells fire officials what the status is....open or closed.
