John and I finally got to the Picasso show at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition began in February and will leave Richmond May 15. This is the only stop on the East Coast and includes 176 works of art from Picasso's personal collection now housed in the Musée National Picasso, Paris.
Enthusiasm for the exhibition has been phenomenal. Last Saturday there were 12,000 vistors to the museum and I think about 11,000 were there to see Picasso. Being members, we did not have to pay for the $20 tickets, and we were able to avoid the ticket line by ordering online. We still had to wait while the crowds were directed into the exhibit in manageable groups.
After viewing the 11 rooms of paintings, sculpture, photographs and prints (photography not permitted) we had lunch at the museum restaurant, Amuse. John and I agreed it was the best meal we've had in Richmond. At the top of the collage you can see John's dessert which I captured before he dove in.
All in all it was a lovely day appealing to all the senses.
