This hideous umbrella stand is a new addition in my dentist's waiting room. As I was leaving, she asked me if I had noticed it. I told her I had, but I was too polite to mention it. Then she admitted her husband had bought it on sale at a thrift store and installed it in her office as a surprise. Since he is a doctor, I asked why he didn't keep it for himself. She replied with grim satisfaction, "Don't you worry; he'll be getting it back."
