A trip to Mardi Gras World revealed a kind of artistry of which I was unaware. The Kern family has been building figures and floats for Mardi Gras for years. Many of the Krews store their floats all year in this warehouse, and the design and construction work is ongoing. We watched the process of molding out of clay and styrofoam, often adapting old figures into brand new designs. I have a whole new appreciation for this art form.
