The Money Shot by alophoto

The Money Shot

For some reason, I muttered this title under my breath as I snapped this shot at Spring Grove Cemetery at my meet up with Katie there on Saturday. I was trying to capture this small scale cathedral (it even had flying buttresses!!) and was blocked from the front by this enormous flowering tree. It was one of those times that I wanted to cut down a tree that was in the way of a good shot...do you ever think to do that (in jest of course:).

There were 3 of us photographing the building at once and I was looking for the perfect pov. I finally found one where I used the wretched blocking tree to my advantage and capitalized on it's lovely pink buds. They matched the stained glass on the front window!

Money shot indeed;-). Speaking of money, I started uploading shots last night in hopes to sell online. When I am up and running, I will let you know:).
The blossoms give it a sense of season, while corner framing the shot. Like it a lot!

@katiebrenkert Did you get any of this church that you were pleased with? It was tricky to get with that bloody tree in the way. You were shooting the other side so I am curious to see what you got.

April 16th, 2013
This is a beautiful shot and I seriously think the pink blossoms are one element that make it so. It's a gorgeous building, but the blossoms and the blue sky really enhance it. Fave!
April 16th, 2013
You have used the offending tree beautifully
April 16th, 2013
Mate, the tree makes it.
April 16th, 2013
Or rather, your positioning of it :-)
April 16th, 2013
Great contrast! Flowers against stone, stone against sky.
April 16th, 2013
It's great to see spring is springing into action for you. I understand what you mean about things getting in the way. Often I think if only that wasn't in the way I would have a great shot but you used the thing in the way to your advantage very nicely. Good luck with selling some photos, like you said above what have you got to lose?
April 16th, 2013
the colors here are fantastic... the worn looking brown paired with the bright blue and pink. well done!

@mooie Aw, thanks so much for your kind comments and the fav, my fellow Amanda:)!

@emrob Thank you so much for your great comments and fav, my other fellow Amanda. Us Amanda's gotta stick together. You are Amanda yes? Not just Mandy? Not that being just Mandy is bad. Oh you know what I mean, right. Please don't take away the fav;-).

@archaeofrog I am going with Fine Art America (I hope that it is not nicknamed Fart America!!). Do you know anything about it? Trying to set pricing kinda sucks. But we will see. Selling any little thing would help me save for a lens, remote timer, etc.
April 17th, 2013
Pretty! We have trees like that where I live and I love seeing all the colors that pop out on the them. Makes me happy :)
April 17th, 2013
Yep--you made it work.
April 17th, 2013
I love the contrast of the delicate Spring blossoms against the massive architecture. Here's to those money shots!
April 17th, 2013

@mgozzard Love your comments, lady! Thank you!!!
April 19th, 2013
I would say you nailed the pov.
April 19th, 2013
@shezza I love your use of the word mate! It's so underused in America. Thanks, man. I absolutely agree that the tree made this shot. It wasn't working however when I tried a differernt pov. It totally obstructed the building. Glad I found this angle. Happy weekend!!

@taffy Thanks for your great comments, sweet Taffy...hey, that works!:)

@thirtysevenways I've made no progress since I posted this day, but I actually did get a new selfie. I wanted a more arty one of me to be my profile photo on the site. Thanks for your comments and encouragement, Andy (37). Hey, I'll be 37 this year!

@lindseying Thanks, lady! I loved them, too. Glad I didn't screw up and go with b&w in this shot. I've been messing up my processing choices this week it seems!

@demmie Thanks so much man and many congrats on TT with your awesome shot this week. How's your middle finger? Healed up now?

@danitech Thanks so much, Miss Danielle. Happy weekend!

@rachelwithey Thanks so much, Miss Rachel. Thanks again so so much for the motion challenge. I've been doing get pushed since the beginning...about a year now and have been waiting for the push to do panning. I can't wait to try it again!

@httpgeffed Thanks so much, sweet lady!
April 20th, 2013
@pflaume Glad that you can relate to the wishing to move nature around. If only we could easily move it like furniture. Thanks, sweet lady!!:)

@snaggy Totally agree that they add! So glad that I didn't pull out the chainsaw when I wanted to;-). Thanks, Kev!!

@anazad511 Thanks, Miss Ana. It's so cool to incorporate the season into the shots. Very excited at how well your amazing Jefferson Memorial framed in spring did!

@kwind Thanks, Kim. It was such a cool place to explore! Fun field trip for sure!

April 20th, 2013
@melody2289 I'm right there with you. If only we could just move things aside like furniture, right?! Thanks, lady!

@annbo Thanks so much, Miss Ann!!

@masosy At this point, I am going to try with an established online art seller called Fine Art America. If that goes well, I will move up to Fine Art World and maybe then Fine Art Universe. ;-) We'll see, maybe I will end up doing a site eventually, but this seems to be a cheap easish way to test the water.

April 20th, 2013
@nana2r Thanks so much, Carren!!

@cmc1200 Thanks so much, lady!! Glad you are back and uploading again. It seems people are dropping like flies.

@bristolrose Thanks Miss Kathryn. Happy weekend, lady!!

@istacy1011 Oh me, too. It's been a LONG winter. We got into the 70's and 80's this week and then today was gray and freezing again. Dang it!! Thanks, lady!

@squamloon Shew, and all with minimal cutting and hacking back;-). Totally kidding!! Thanks, man!

@wendyhgill Gotta love the money shots!! Thanks, Wendy. I always really appreciate your eloquent comments!:)

@emrob Righto Amanda! Happy weekend. When's your meet up with Lisa?

@tbats22 I thought maybe I shouldn't, but what the heck...it is really what I said outloud. So funny. Happy weekend, sweet friend!

@sistawood They definitely make the shot. A plain old building would be boring comparatively. SO so glad that I tried a different angle before I cut the thing down;-)!! Thanks, lady!

@archaeofrog We'll see if my images are big enough. No progress yet, except the new selfie for my profile. I wanted something more artsy.

@alia_801 I loved the matchiness. Thanks so much for noticing, Alia:)!!

@helixconcepts Thanks, Laura. Really appreciate that!!

@abhijit Thanks so much, Abhijit!! Happy weekend!

@carolmw Thanks, Carol. I totally agree. So glad that I waited before chopping it down;-). Kidding!

April 20th, 2013
@darrenboyj Thanks, Darren. I was pleased in the end. I found the sweet spot;-).

@aleksandra Thanks sweet lady. Can't wait to catch up on your trip photos. How are you recovering?

@intalexual Oh man, it is so welcome after a long winter. And we were teased back with a wintery feeling day today. No more cold, dang it. Thanks, Paul!!

@edie Thanks, Edie. I am quite pleased and relieved that I waited to pull out the saw. Shew;-)!!

@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thanks so much, Arefin. You are owning the TT these days, man. Congrats!!

@colie Thanks so much, Colie. So glad you liked it. Thanks for the follow, too. I've been impressed by your work!

@barbsmith Aw, thank you, my friend!!
April 20th, 2013
@amandal I like the new classy selfie :) 37 cropes up everywhere for me and my little man arrived two weeks before the end of my 37th birthday year to make the number even more special to me. Sadly I am now way passed 37 :(
April 20th, 2013
very nice! what an amazing building! so many great curvatures in the window framing. wow.
April 25th, 2013
@thirtysevenways You can be 37 and counting;-). 37 is a good age. I am actually starting to get a little stressed about the encroaching 40th, though. Funny, 30 didn't bother me at all, but 40 seems not so young anymore. I guess that you are as old as you act and feel, though.

@moreyoulessme Thanks, Jerri. I found out that it is a mausolium where someone is buried. It looks like a church!
