The skies were bigger in Michigan. They were perfectly blue and cloudy except when it rained. I found it nuts that the sky would turn black, it would pour and then a little while later it would be clear, blue and beautiful again. All in all we had pretty good weather on our vacation. Except for the last day, it only rained while we slept and we were only flooded out (our tent poured in the rain) once. That was a messy day.
This was taken while flying down the highway (as I sat in the passenger seat). I loved how right from a storybook it was.
Did I mention how glad I am to have a regular roof over my head again, not to have to hike to the bathrooms (I had to walk my kids there, too), and how good my own bed feels? Vacations are great in that they help you appreciate home again. But oh the piles of laundry I still have to do...
@jsw0109 Eat your heart out, Jeff. I don't think that any of us can shoot a barn without thinking of you. You've got the corner on the barn market. Gorgeous, huh? Michigan was so pretty! Did you go there recently?
A really beautiful scene! Your drive-by photography is great...my driver doesn't slow down either. Love the colors and just the real rural feel of this image. Yes, it is a lot of work to have so much fun.!!!
This really does look right out of a story book. Nice composition! And the colors - so much green and blue. Really conveys the wide open space. Looks like you had a nice vacation!
very pretty ~ and vintage looking too! I'm still thinking Michigan is where I'm going on vacation in October this year... but it isn't carved in stone yet.... but the plan is for Sleeping Bear Dunes (or is it Sleepy?)... it has everything I could possibly want as a photographer - dunes, beaches, lighthouses, historic farms and villages, shipwrecks....
@jsw0109 It was freakin' amazing to be a photographer there. I so had everything I am into, too...beaches, lighthouses, bikes, islands. Amazingness. Thanks, Jeff! We stayed in the UP (around Mackinack Island). Look into there. You've got to get up to Whitefish Bay. Let me know if you are going and I can give some good recommendations.
@adamj Wait, you went? You hated it??? No way. It's so great. Except when your tent floods. I also posted a campfire shot today. How funny. Thanks for the fav!:)
@adamj Maybe it was the bacon maple donut that made you sick? Where did you camp? I am telling you upstate Michigan (UP area) rocks!!! I want to go back. It's so hot at home now.
@amandal Sorta of. I went to Woodstock II and spent the weekend in a tent on the grounds. I don't like anything about roughing it. I know you only met me once, but I am city slicker true and trough. I need my basic comforts, particularly in terms of my hygiene regimine.
@adamj The crickets are nice, the great view of the stars, the fire, the fresh air. Yes, I get the pain in the butt about roughing it, but it's worth it now and again. So glad to have my bathroom and shower back. Walking a 1/2 mile at night to use it stinks. We had showers, too, but no, not as comfortable or easy as home. Sorry you had a bad time.
In some places the sky really does feel bigger and in this case the barn is gigantic to the ones here! Do you know why so many of the barns are red in the States? Glad you had a fab holiday and are now appreciating the comforts of home again.
@happysnap No clue why so many are red. I think that it is more that the red ones are the most photographed. I don't see too many around me. I love the color, though. Thanks, lady!
@bobfoto And to make matters worse, I've realized what a squealer I am. Granted I always have a good excuse, like today there was a spider on MY HEAD! But still. I thought that I was a pretty cool girl. And now, I am aware of my tendencies to shriek. Dang it! She's good. You camper. I don't even know what that means, but it sounded funny.
@bobfoto Oh good to hear and thanks! Simmered down now after going to my son's spa (he set up a foot bath in a closet and played relaxing music to pamper me). I need another vacation as I am feeling so tightly wound like a sprung. Still doing laundry after camping and have another solid day or two of it to go. Such a mess.
What a great image -- iconic Michigan farm shot! Fav! I'm glad you enjoyed your time in northern Michigan, Amanda, and that the weather cooperated for you (at least most of the time). Wet tents, not fun!
@thirtysevenways Oh yes, and the skies are always blue and money grows on trees. I love the red ones, but don't see them often (though I don't live deep in barn country). Thanks, friend.
@bobfoto It was and for the record, you didn't drive me too nuts:). It reminded me of a brother and sister fighting in the back seat of the car thing. "I'm not touching you..." Do they do that in Australia?
@amandal - I will admit to being a WUM when I went with the second "yup" and yes, I do remember my little sister calling out to mum and dad all about how I was touching her once again on the long drive in the car.
@bobfoto Wicked Umbrella Man? Yup, I'm stumped again. For speaking the same language, we get lost in translation a bunch. What did you even mean by the yup in the first place? Yup this is a fav photo of mine? Yup you rock again how is that even possible?
@rennes Oh it was amazing. I loved being a photographer on vacation. I haven't gotten to do that too many times. I only got started last year and missed so many ops before (went to Yosemite a handful of times, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe). It's sickening what I missed out on.
@ernmar Thank you, Ernie. Hope to make photo club finally this month. Wait, did I miss it already or is it next week?
@psychographer I loved it. Thanks, kind friend! Thanks for sticking up for me today. I told that meanie to go submerge himself in some water and take a photo:).
@bobfoto Nope.
@eyesmile I always seen to need an after vacation. Thanks, Gena!!
@pflaume Thanks so much for the fav, Lisa. Really appreciate it!:)
@abhijit I retroed it up a tad. Thanks, man!
