The Big Red Storybook Barn by alophoto

The Big Red Storybook Barn

The skies were bigger in Michigan. They were perfectly blue and cloudy except when it rained. I found it nuts that the sky would turn black, it would pour and then a little while later it would be clear, blue and beautiful again. All in all we had pretty good weather on our vacation. Except for the last day, it only rained while we slept and we were only flooded out (our tent poured in the rain) once. That was a messy day.

This was taken while flying down the highway (as I sat in the passenger seat). I loved how right from a storybook it was.

Did I mention how glad I am to have a regular roof over my head again, not to have to hike to the bathrooms (I had to walk my kids there, too), and how good my own bed feels? Vacations are great in that they help you appreciate home again. But oh the piles of laundry I still have to do...
Great picture of this barn!!!

@jsw0109 Eat your heart out, Jeff. I don't think that any of us can shoot a barn without thinking of you. You've got the corner on the barn market. Gorgeous, huh? Michigan was so pretty! Did you go there recently?
August 12th, 2013
A really beautiful scene! Your drive-by photography is great...my driver doesn't slow down either. Love the colors and just the real rural feel of this image. Yes, it is a lot of work to have so much fun.!!!
August 12th, 2013
yup.
August 12th, 2013
This really does look right out of a story book. Nice composition! And the colors - so much green and blue. Really conveys the wide open space. Looks like you had a nice vacation!
August 12th, 2013
very pretty ~ and vintage looking too! I'm still thinking Michigan is where I'm going on vacation in October this year... but it isn't carved in stone yet.... but the plan is for Sleeping Bear Dunes (or is it Sleepy?)... it has everything I could possibly want as a photographer - dunes, beaches, lighthouses, historic farms and villages, shipwrecks....
August 12th, 2013
@jsw0109 It was freakin' amazing to be a photographer there. I so had everything I am into, too...beaches, lighthouses, bikes, islands. Amazingness. Thanks, Jeff! We stayed in the UP (around Mackinack Island). Look into there. You've got to get up to Whitefish Bay. Let me know if you are going and I can give some good recommendations.
August 12th, 2013
Gorgeous. Love the tones in this!
August 12th, 2013
Very pretty....love the colours!
August 12th, 2013
Lovely soft colours and the sky is to die for. FAV
August 12th, 2013
@cathrinemitch I was in awe of that amazing sky. It was picture perfect. Thanks so much for that, my friend.

@bobfoto Nope.
August 12th, 2013
Fantastic landscape!Love the composition and tones!
August 12th, 2013
Superb landscape and it does look like a storybook or cartoon farm
August 12th, 2013
How quintessential Americana. Lovely!
August 12th, 2013
very cool
August 12th, 2013
Return Fav! Very funny that we both posted a red barn. Hey, btw I hate camping and will never do it again! Glad you enjoyed it though :))
August 12th, 2013
Gorgeous colors and scene!
August 12th, 2013
@adamj Wait, you went? You hated it??? No way. It's so great. Except when your tent floods. I also posted a campfire shot today. How funny. Thanks for the fav!:)
August 12th, 2013
@adamj Maybe it was the bacon maple donut that made you sick? Where did you camp? I am telling you upstate Michigan (UP area) rocks!!! I want to go back. It's so hot at home now.
August 12th, 2013
@amandal Sorta of. I went to Woodstock II and spent the weekend in a tent on the grounds. I don't like anything about roughing it. I know you only met me once, but I am city slicker true and trough. I need my basic comforts, particularly in terms of my hygiene regimine.
August 12th, 2013
@adamj The crickets are nice, the great view of the stars, the fire, the fresh air. Yes, I get the pain in the butt about roughing it, but it's worth it now and again. So glad to have my bathroom and shower back. Walking a 1/2 mile at night to use it stinks. We had showers, too, but no, not as comfortable or easy as home. Sorry you had a bad time.
August 12th, 2013
In some places the sky really does feel bigger and in this case the barn is gigantic to the ones here! Do you know why so many of the barns are red in the States? Glad you had a fab holiday and are now appreciating the comforts of home again.
August 12th, 2013
@adamj Was there a concert? Who did you see?
August 12th, 2013
@happysnap No clue why so many are red. I think that it is more that the red ones are the most photographed. I don't see too many around me. I love the color, though. Thanks, lady!
August 12th, 2013
@quickshots Thanks so much, Quentin!

@eyesmile I always seen to need an after vacation. Thanks, Gena!!
August 12th, 2013
@amandal - yup.
August 12th, 2013
@bobfoto Driving me nuts!!! Grrr....and I wonder why my followers keep leaving me:). What the heck?!
August 12th, 2013
@amandal - my apologies. Sorry. No intent to drive you nuts. I'll behave now.
August 12th, 2013
@bobfoto And to make matters worse, I've realized what a squealer I am. Granted I always have a good excuse, like today there was a spider on MY HEAD! But still. I thought that I was a pretty cool girl. And now, I am aware of my tendencies to shriek. Dang it! She's good. You camper. I don't even know what that means, but it sounded funny.
August 12th, 2013
@amandal - You are a pretty cool gal. The occasional squeal is no problem, especially when things startle you.
August 12th, 2013
@bobfoto Oh good to hear and thanks! Simmered down now after going to my son's spa (he set up a foot bath in a closet and played relaxing music to pamper me). I need another vacation as I am feeling so tightly wound like a sprung. Still doing laundry after camping and have another solid day or two of it to go. Such a mess.
August 12th, 2013
Beautiful scenery! But you're right, there's no place like home!
August 12th, 2013
Such a beautiful country shot, Amanda. I am amazed how clear it came out considering you were in a moving car.
August 12th, 2013

Love the subtle colors....very peaceful....glad you're home too :)
August 13th, 2013
So beautiful Amanda, like out of a story book.
August 13th, 2013
@amandal - the foot bath sounds like the perfect tonic. I too often need a holiday after a holiday.
August 13th, 2013
What a great image -- iconic Michigan farm shot! Fav! I'm glad you enjoyed your time in northern Michigan, Amanda, and that the weather cooperated for you (at least most of the time). Wet tents, not fun!
August 13th, 2013
Wonderful iconic shot! Lovely.
August 13th, 2013
Zam
gorgeous colours and composition!
August 13th, 2013
These barns are typically American to me. Reminds me of the movie Barnyard. They are all red in the US, right? ;)
August 13th, 2013
@thirtysevenways Oh yes, and the skies are always blue and money grows on trees. I love the red ones, but don't see them often (though I don't live deep in barn country). Thanks, friend.
August 13th, 2013
@bobfoto It was and for the record, you didn't drive me too nuts:). It reminded me of a brother and sister fighting in the back seat of the car thing. "I'm not touching you..." Do they do that in Australia?
August 13th, 2013
Lovely shot
August 13th, 2013
cool vintage shot! nice find
August 13th, 2013
@amandal - I will admit to being a WUM when I went with the second "yup" and yes, I do remember my little sister calling out to mum and dad all about how I was touching her once again on the long drive in the car.
August 13th, 2013
@bobfoto WUM= white urban male?
August 13th, 2013
Gorgeous! Picture perfect. :)
August 13th, 2013
@bobfoto Wicked Umbrella Man? Yup, I'm stumped again. For speaking the same language, we get lost in translation a bunch. What did you even mean by the yup in the first place? Yup this is a fav photo of mine? Yup you rock again how is that even possible?
August 13th, 2013
Such a great barn shot - those colours are fabulous - sounds like a cool place to visit with your camera! : )
August 13th, 2013
Love farm scenes, nice one.

August 14th, 2013
Pretty scene
August 14th, 2013
@bobfoto That's what I figured it had to do with. It was fun to guess, though.

@pflaume Thanks so much for the fav, Lisa. Really appreciate it!:)
August 14th, 2013
makes me think of road trips and pictures one take from the car, except this one is not blurry haha ;) lovely colors.
August 14th, 2013
@camim It was perfectly crisp, but I dreamied it up in processing which maybe gave it a tad blur. Thanks, kind lady!
August 14th, 2013
@soboy5 Thank you, Danny!

@abhijit I retroed it up a tad. Thanks, man!

@rennes Oh it was amazing. I loved being a photographer on vacation. I haven't gotten to do that too many times. I only got started last year and missed so many ops before (went to Yosemite a handful of times, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe). It's sickening what I missed out on.

@ernmar Thank you, Ernie. Hope to make photo club finally this month. Wait, did I miss it already or is it next week?

@kareenking Aw, thanks lady!
