I'm going everyday Amanda today. No costumes, no weird expression (that was really hard for me to restrain myself, I gotta say), no crazy edit. no record in my face...just me, plain and simple. So I dolled up a little from regular...I had been in my gym clothes and a ponytail, but I threw on a normal outfit and put on a little make up and my new red lipstick (first tube I've ever had of red). Sue me;-).
I can't find my favorite photo of me from childhood. Somewhere along the line and in the course of many moves, it has gotten misplaced and possibly lost. It was a quick polaroid shot of me at age 4, all browned from the sun, in a pool. I think I was in a blue inflatable ring. And my smile...huge...some would describe it as shit eating. What a crazy expression! I've tossed all logical places for that photo...all the photo boxes and albums, even some frames...it's just gone. Kills me.
That polaroid was my first camera, I believe, too. I was doing a writing exercise the other night and recalling memories of my Grandpa. And I remembered taking shots of he and my Grandma with that old polaroid. They stood for me in their backyard in front of a clay pot of marigolds...all yellow and orange. And I snapped and loved their photo...watched it as it came to life. That is another one that has gone missing. They are gone, too. Wish I had that sweet old photo to remember them better.
Last weekend, while out garage saling, I came across a polaroid. I was tempted for a sec. Wonder if my dad still has our old one? I need to ask him. Glad I still can.
Oh and thank you soooo much for your great comments and faves on my sweet giraffes yesterday. I really loved that shot, so your support/your confirmation was so nice!
What a fantastic self portrait! I love your red lipstick. :-) And my fingers are crossed that one day, when you least expect it, you find one or both of those missing photos. I know just how you feel about them.
Awwww..... loved your commentary, the video, this awesome selfie and have to say I so enjoy your presentations on this site. You're just some kind of awesome and oh yeah, the red lip stick suits you nicely :)
Oh Amanda...you are sooo adorable. I love this pose and composition. Your selfies are always such a delight! I got stuck going through old photos the other day...delayed me from my task for hours! But was wonderful! Hope you find that photo...it's there! I always say "It's not lost...I just can't find it!".
I know it's no replacement for the photo of you when you were 4 - BUT this is such a sweet photo - I can picture you looking similar but only 4 - maybe without that luscious red lipstick. Love your story and memories. wish you lived down the road - would like to go out taking photos with you cos I know you would make me smile and laugh. Gorgeous photo.
I think of all the craziness we can do for self-portraiture, the simple, me-and-the-camera shots are the hardest. I don't know if I have one, myself! Brava, lady - good for you. You will find those photos. Unpacked boxes of books, junk drawers, children's rooms - there are many places for a pola to hide :)
You should use this for your 365 profile, too! It's such a cute photo of you!! What I remember about the first camera I ever saw....it was a square black box -- my dad's. He was the only one who took the pix.
@cimes1 Did it have a curtain around his head?;-). I seem to remember a 110 with a rotating flash cube thingy. And I remember my Fisher Price camera with the animal pictures inside that changed with each click. My mom taught me that the monkey was my grandpa:). I did use this photo, just not this edit of Facebook.
@bobfoto i did my own white t shot, but i was much more at ease about it. It's nice to do a vanilla selfie, all regular, for a change. I'd been awhile. How's it going taking 365 less seriously this year? Nice to have your life back?
I love every one of your selfies! You're always a fabulous crazy model and on this one you're showing the pretty smily girl part of you. You look great!
@cejaanderson Loved her shot. such happy cute kids. Love those kinds of moments...timeless. Thank you!!!
@alicenellis I always HATED my youthful looks growing up. When i was in my 20s and went to a high school football game with my younger sister...7 years younger...someone pointed and said twins. I was sooo pissed to be thought of as 16. And then another time in my 20's I got on a bus with my family and the bus driver charged my mom for 2 kids. Kids were 10 and younger. Made me seethe the rest of the day. Now that I am pushing 40 and still look pretty young, I'll take it. I am noticing more grays lately...and lines on my face. And today at lunch, my kid called me a prune!! The punk. Thanks, lady!!
@egad I could hardly be normal for long, cause I'd be faking it:). I love being fun. But just had to show my other side. Thanks, lady!! I took mine yesterday, too. Like your pretty shot your hubby got of you.
@bobfoto yeah, it tends to after 34 years. Oy, I think that my processing...the extra contrast, didn't flatter my legs. I am not quite that day glow. Must lay out!! I still need better balance.
but for that darn red lipstick, you look like a 14-year old here. so sweet and innocent looking. looking is the operative word. i remember commenting on this. but as per usual, i think what i do is click on the 'post comment' then go on with the next photo and the comment doesn't get posted. dagnabits!
@summerfield I am really noticing my age all of a sudden. More grays...which I try to pluck, but they are getting outta control. More lines in the face...aging sucks, but glad I have youngish genes. Finally glad about that.:)
@amandal - don't be nuts plucking your gray, you'd be bald in a jiffy! if you get too conscious, colouring is the way to go, but try not to. you look very young (early 30's, isn't it?) and that's because you're crazy, in a good way. i'm crazy, too, all the ways!
@amandal - hey, kiddo, would you like to give me your address, i saw something today that i thought would be perfect for you. soon as i saw it, "amanda" came to mind. you'd be using it in your future photos, i'm pretty sure.
@summerfield Pushing 40. I'm 38 in a few weeks. I'll email you my address:). I've been plucking since college and still have tons of hair. I'll need to stop soon and dye (not die).
I really like this Amanda - you look so relaxed and happy - and I really enjoyed your narrative... it brought back some memories of my own - thank you.

@gerry Really appreciate your kind fav, Gerry!!
@cejaanderson Loved her shot. such happy cute kids. Love those kinds of moments...timeless. Thank you!!!
