“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
May my children and I stay on the narrow road, the smaller path, the road less traveled.
This was taken right outside The Rankin House that we toured and I shared a shot of yesterday.
That's an odd quote from the bible - wonder what they meant when they wrote that! I like the thought of sharing a wide road? I do like little narrow paths like this - I think she might be skipping along here!
A really great POV on this shot, with her determined back and cute red shoes. I understand this quote, I think... you are right. Stay on the road less travelled, the harder path, travel through the "eye of the needle." :)
It's funny, ladies, I have always understood this verse in the wrong way. I was even thinking of it wrong, when I included it above. I was thinking of it more as a doing the right thing, following God's path rather than doing what everybody else is doing. God's standards vs. the worlds. I grew up in a rules based church (do this, don't do that). That is what many people think of religion and what God wants from us.
But in truth, this verse is talking about the path to God. It is narrow, not many follow it.
I believe and the Bible states through Jesus words in John 14:6: "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
We can not in our own power and strength be "good enough" or perfectly righteous for God. He knows that and knew that and that is why he sent Jesus as the perfect sacrifice to cover our times that we miss the mark or screw up. I can try really hard to do everything right, but all I get is close but no cigar. It's impossible for us humans to be perfect.
I'm grateful that there is a way for me to be right through Jesus. Without him, I'm a real mess.
@amandal you need to read the book were doing this summer as a group of women. Good news for weary women by Elyse m Fitzpatrick. I find it a bit American in that our cultures are similar but a still different so don't fully relate but lots of good Christian writers are American so it's something us Brits get used to when reading Christian books! All about grace and escaping the pressures we perceive and feel from ourselves, the church and society.
