I was worried when we were leaving the US and going to Mexico on the day after the election when the votes were freshly tallied. Going into a dangerous part of a third world country where the people had been insulted during the course of the election...some were even referred to as bad hombres.
But that worry melted away there as I saw the sweet faces of the children. They mostly loved getting their photo taken, smiling and waving to me. Only one little girl, turned her face away shy.
In the end, I think that the timing was absolutely perfect. Let me just say that it was amazing to get out of the country when we did and forget about all of the drama here...forget about the political arguments and protests and all facebook debates and rants, forget about all of the garbage back home and just love on some little ones who needed to know they are worth it.
Spent the past few days serving the people and children of Juarez, Mexico. My life and perspective have been changed and all this crap back home matters less. So, so nice to get away, forget a little and come back changed.
One sweet little girl even requested that I hold her, so I picked her up and got the cuddle that I was so badly needing from missing my own children.
Love these beautiful people and despite the language barrier (that was oftentimes frustrating to me), I think I (we as a group) were able to convey that love.
And crazy story here...the people were waiting in line at the ministry where we were working. Waiting for food bags and clothing. Some had been in line since 5:30 AM. In America, people do that to get a big screen TV deal on Black Friday or football tickets, not for necessities like food and clothes. Broke my heart at the difference.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm glad you had such a meaningful trip! Its so important to look past politics and remember that everyone is a person sometimes.
Sweet. Nice of you to do that for them.
I stopped visiting FB not too long after I began 365. I spend my time here and don't get upset anymore over politics. I know I would have been very stressed had I kept going to FB.
Wow, what an experience, my daughter went to the Philippines to help street kids several years ago, but it totally changed her perspective on life's luxuries
This picture is full of emotion, for each face bears a different expression which conveys varying feelings, but your little gal in the bright sweet, her genuine smile captures our hearts and confirms that all the world's people are the same — they need to know love and acceptance, and you've given that in your time and efforts while in Mexico. Thanks for sharing this, Amanda.
Beautiful shot. What a great opportunity. I've stood in El Paso and looked into Jaurez, quite a shocking difference, but we weren't allowed to go (Jaurez and much of Mexico is off limits to military members).
What an experience you had and thanks for sharing it with us. The beautiful smile you captured on the little girl is so heartwarming and cheerful. Love and kindness are so powerful.
So pleased that you can comment on what you feel! I think you must feel you are in a different world - but sadly only temporarily! From what I learn its all going to get better! Lovely natural photo - even the one who doesn't smile!
Just catching up with your trip Amanda. What a wonderful experience and perfect timing!! I am sure your group did so much good with your visit of love!! Beautiful image!! Fav!
