Matrimandir- Soul of the City

Matrimandir, literally means Temple of the Mother.
This structure stands on 4 pillars.
You can go in only with a prior appointment.
The Inner Chamber in the upper hemisphere of the structure is completely white, with white marble walls and white carpeting. In the centre a pure crystal-glass globe suffuses a ray if electronically guided sunlight which falls on it through an opening at the apex of the sphere.
The most important thing is the play of the sun on the centre.

A big Thank you to all if you for getting "In the Spotlight" on the PP.
Stunning archecture, very modern

This looks so impressive, I just had to google it up... love the meaning behind this place, and would so love to see the interior! Have you been inside the building yet?

@sansjuan Thanks so much Nita! It is worth a visit! :-)
@lunaksi Thanks Natasa! Yes, went in this morning, and was up close but without a camera. The gold disks you see, there are 2 million of them, made with glass sheets a and thin gold leaf, a lovely gold mosaic, my picture does not do it justice. The interiors are something i haven't experienced before.
There is a coat of salmon pink, so a very soft light. A circular ramp takes you up, to the Inner chamber, and the only ray of light that lights up the structure is the one guided
by the heliostat on top of the Matrimndir.....
It is an experience. Could mail you pictures of the pictures of the Inner Chamber.

@mara19500 Glad you like it Mara! The interior is amazing!
@writingdays yes it is, been completed in 2008. I did go in this morning. You go in as a group the first time, so it is a limited time. They call it concentrate. :-). It was wonderful, an amazing experience. And there is a pond , shaped as if with lotus petals at the bottom below the dome, with a small crystal ball at the centre and the sun's ray travels through the structure and touches the crystal in the lotus pond below.

@amrita21 Thanks Amrita! I've just checked the photos of the interior (couldn't find any videos though!), but I think it's just one of those structures that are so much more than just a 'building', and I think that you really have to experience it yourself in order to get the picture and know the atmosphere... I hope that one day I will visit India, and hopefully this place too!

@abhijit you lived around Chennai? Pondicherry? Amazing how its been built! The interior is fascinating, lit only by a single ray of light..... ethereal.
@steampowered. Thanks Paul!
@amandal Amanda, you got that right... that is the effect they wanted to get, something bursting out of the earth! :-)
