Pine Siskin perched
Thanks so much for fav'ing my hummingbird photo and following my project. Most of all because it introduced me to you and your wonderful project. Love all your photos that I have had the time to see. But I particularly enjoy someone who takes such nice bird photos because I know how hard it can be. (But can only imagine how challenging in Michigan in the winter. In California, it is equally easy to take photos of our boringly colored birds all year round.) But it has given me appreciation for the beauty of a great capture like this of subtly colored bird taken with great detail and composition. And I was just talking to someone at the Bird Preserve yesterday about how much he enjoyed his Nikon P900. I see you get great results with yours. Anyway, hope spring comes for you soon. Nice to make your 365 acquaintance.

@mbrutus Thanks for the follow and the kind words. Have looked through more of your photos; greatly enjoyed your narrative re: hummingbird photography back in February. Laughed out loud. Like many, I’ve had my own hummingbird trials and tribulations. Last summer, put up feeders, carefully followed all recommendations for location, accompanying plant life, etc. Saw hummingbirds two days in a row and then not one the rest of the summer. :). Also, had a very close encounter with a hummingbird on Mackinac Island. Sat down on a bench along a trail we were walking and a hummingbird flew right up to my face and hovered there. (so close I could feel the wings beating near my face). Scared the crap out of me, husband thought it was hilarious. Continues to remind me I should be able to get great hummingbird photos since they like me so much. Again, thanks for the kind words and I look forward to more of your photos.

@amyk wow. That sounds like a Close Encounter of a Fourth Kind. Will you put up the feeder again this summer? Your luck might change. When I bought BirdCatcher, a long telephoto zoom, I thought it would be helpful shooting the deer that some times roam the neighborhood and a wet pavement shot I had always wanted to take but never had the right lens. The deer did not appear for nine months, but I finally got them. And the drought returned with no rain for eleven months. And the one night it did rain, I was recovering from back spasms. That’s just the way the Photo Gods get their kicks.
