Church at Night by andycoleborn

Church at Night

Took the day off today to visit my parents down in Hampshire. I had hoped to take some photos of trees showing their full autumn colours, but the chance never arose. I was either driving on roads I couldn't pull over on, and when I could, there was nothing worth taking....

So here's a pic of an old church in a tiny hamlet called East Tisted in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. Taken this evening, pitch black so focusing was quite hard. Turned it B&W as I felt it added more to the photo.

Parents were in a biggering mood with each other today! Suppose we all have those days....
Try putting your camera into manual focus and focus to infinity. You'll know that everything is in focus then. Nice pic!

Beautiful old church

@vikdaddy Cheers Vik...Will have to read up on this "focus to infinity" lark... have seen it mentioned before but haven't got my head around it yet... As for manual focus, I use it occasionally but am lazy and tend to stick to the old auto business (although I mostly choose the focus point manually)...

A very dramatic and stunning photo...I love it! The black-and-white effect definitely adds to the imposing mood.

Wow!! Great shot! And very fitting for this time of year.

Really Cool effect! The BW enhances it, I agree. It looks HDR.
Change of season seems to get everyone in some kind of mood. I try to remember that all misunderstandings hold value and it helps us grow. :)

Spooky. Well done!

I definitely would not want to be caught in a place like this...

great job Andy, your focus looks spot on too.

Love the processing you have done with this photo. Looks like Halloween came early! On the right in front of the big glass window, is that a ghost lawn ornament?

I plan to go get a church yard at night soon, I've seen a few on here during the day so thought night would be pretty cool. Lightroom will aways bring out the grey of head stones and greens. Bit eerie mind being in graveyard at night.

although this has worked out cool, slightly grainey, perhaps thats the focus but yea focusing at night is rather tricky.
October 19th, 2010
@azza_l tell me about it - this was pitch black and I had to semi press the shutter on the camera to light the graveyard to avoid walking into headstones or down ruts... Girlfriend's son said he will 'get' me LR when my free trial ends... cheers :-)

@andycoleborn cool man! i swear i use it all the time now, works wonders on RAW (which of course you know anyway)
October 20th, 2010
@azza_l Yeah, it is good - am learning ways to use it to avoid slowing my laptop down as well.... trouble is, I'm now spending most nights messing about with it trying different techniques.... Missing out on 'quality' telly!!!! yeah right!!
