A day off from using my 50mm lens, so it was back to the Wharf after work to grab a photo.
I took a walk along one of the broadwalks running along the docks, around the back of the Wharf and spotted the O2 arena (originally the Millenium Dome and still known as the dome to most) in the distance. The building is actually on the south side of the Thames so is in fact some distance from where I took this photo.
The building has a bit of a checkered history... built to celebrate the millenium at a cost of £500 million or more and open for 12 months in 2000 with a mixture of exhibitions and attractions, it soon closed and was empty for many years.
It's now the World's No1 music venue (3rd year running I believe) and as hosted many top sporting events, some NBA games and will stage some events at next years' Olympics...
I've been in it - I went to the exhibition in 2000. Walm inside a stomach ...or something, lots of wild circust things. It's amazing to see it like this.
Brilliant photo of the arena. I've been there for a gig and it is awesome - Thankfully i was on ground level and not in the rafters because that looked pretty scary from where I was!
thanks guys... @cirasj Nah, it's the same here, we never go to the things on our doorstep! @louisejb ha ha yeah, have heard about the vertigo in the top seats
And also Stearophonics. It is pretty bloody high, but worth got butchers, lots of bars and eateries. Not that I work for the London toursit board of course.
