It was my Dad's funeral today and it meant getting up atbout 5am and leaving home by 6am to make sure we got there on time...
As it turned out, there wasn't any traffic hold ups so we had plenty of time to stop off for a coffee a couple of times and also here at Chawton, home of Jane Austin..
As for the ceremony, it was a little like a conveyor belt, with two 'chapel's each having a cremation every 30 minutes... Sort of in, little bit of chat, some music and out you go...
Have to say, I wasn't overly impressed with the speach made by the guy conducting the service but mum and everyone else thought it was good...
Drove back to London in the evening and like an old fart, I fell asleep on the sofa at 9pm..!
I knew your Dad wasn't well but I am sorry to hear that he passed away, Andy. I missed your earlier updates this week. My sincere condolences. The photo is lovely with the rays of light peaking through.
nice shot of the dawning day. Hope the day wasn't too painful - I find funerals the most draining events, not surprised you were asleep by 9! 2 years back we had my granny's funeral on the Thursday in Hampsire and my Nan's funeral in London on the Friday after which i had to return to Hampshire to be with my Mum looking after my nephew's...now that night I slept about 16 hrs!! Take it easy this weekend mate...hugs x
I love the bench below the breaking sun, I find it rather significant, especially with everything you've been through, although I don't think I can put it into words..
No funeral is fun ... especially ones where you feel like you're in a fast food drive-thru. This picture is quite lovely, and I bet you weren't really trying due to the fact of what day it was.
Funerals never seem to work out to me. There are too many things in the minds of the participants.
