South Indian Sisters by andycoleborn

South Indian Sisters

My wife can tell whereabouts people in India come from simply by the type of saree and the way they wear it.. I can tell if someone's Tamil but that's about it..

These two ladies were deep in conflab about food, I couldn't understand anything apart from dosa and samosa .. Dosa is a popular south Indian food btw..

Sweaty old day today walking back and forth to Hackney a couple of times.. Tho I did find time to sit in the park for a sneaky half hour rest..
Good capture of an intense conversation that anyone can relate to and the colorful garb adds to the image.

Ditto about the sweaty day, it's just before midnight and I still have the windows open and the fan on max.

Lovely candid and one I can picture happening all over the underground. Nicely spotted and captured

Yes we can usually tell where an Indian comes from because of their looks. Though now, with traditions becoming less marked and a cosmopolitan culture developing, one can be mistaken i have met Indians who settled in Africa years ago looking like Indians from Gujarat looked a 100 years ago! They stuck to old dressing styles which indians had long given up.
I would have said South Indian too from your photo. But dosas and samosas are cooked all over India now!
Great candid portrait.

@veengupta Hi - that's true - Many of the large Bangladeshi community in East London haven't moved on for the past 40 years, living like they remember from before they came here, whereas back in BDesh, styles, attitudes can change.

@veengupta hah - I should also say (and of course you wouldn't have know :-)..) but these ladies got on a train in an area where many south Indians (mainly from Kerala) live so it was a bit of an educated guess :-)
