Feeding the Needy by andycoleborn

Feeding the Needy

Anyone who lives in the UK can't have failed to hear of the rise in local Foodbanks, where those that have fallen on tough times can get food to help them through a few days...

I organised a collection at work and whilst only maybe 10% of staff donated something, we collected a fair old amount which we handed over today..

To be honest, I only bought the value range products, but it's amazing how many tins of soup/beans etc you can buy for about £3..

Later in teh evening I met my brother and his wife who was down in London for a book launch.. My brother runs a publishing house and was launching a novel by Rod Rees called "Invent-ion".. got a signed copy but it does look a little heavy going, but I'll give it a go...
Good for you, Andy. I live in a "wealthy" rural area where deprivation is not obvious but it is there - and because of the work I do I see it. My office orders a food parcel nearly every week for some one in need - I now regularly buy extra and donate to our local food bank.

Cheers guys

@annemary Oh I believe it can be just as bad in rural areas as well as inner cities - cornwall has qute a big problem I hear... Whilst we were handing the food over, 3 people came up begging for handouts.. They didn't get any as they need to go through the centre, but apparently the foodbank people get it quite often when they are at supermarkets collecting...

Oh wow, great work!

This is great work, but a soup kitchen would be healthier. It is very difficult to organise, I suppose. In India where such work is desperately needed it is difficult to do.
