At the top of the fjord from Djúpivogur (the Berufjöƌur) we saw a side road (Road 939) which branched off the Ring Road (Road 1) through the Öxi Pass. We thought, 'Oh this looks good. Let's explore!' And it was magnificent.
At this photo point, we ate our lunch in the glorious sunshine. The snaking road we had just come up looks benign, and we didn't have any trouble at all for the remainder of the road, although there were some hairy bends which necessitated extreme care. Later, we discovered that the road is listed as a dangerous road outside of summertime and in bad weather.
