Commemorating the cadaver carriages

Along the pedestrian walkway under Melbourne's Upfield line, I was struck by this piece of urban art, which is one stanza of six stencilled stanzas of a 'distributed poem' called 'Train Lines' by artist Marcia Ferguson commemorating the bulk transport of cadavers along the train route between 1906 and 1939. It is told from the perspective of an old man's body, as he travels toward his final resting place.

It what was state-of-the-art dead body management in its day, coffins from the CBD morgue were slid into special racks built into what were called 'cadaver carriages'. The carriages were then pulled by steam engine from Flinders Street Station to Fawkner Station, where they were unloaded at a purpose-built platform at Fawkner Cemetery.

I like the idea of writing your own stanza! @yaorenliu

Perhaps a bit macabre, but I like that the history is being commemorated regardless! @leggzy @blueberry1222 @peadar
