Out with the old . . . by ankers70

Out with the old . . .

Windmills used to be an icon of the Australian farm. They provided a permanent water supply for early settlers, pumping both household water and water for stock. They have gradually been replaced by alternative pumping systems and many have fallen into disrepair. There are now only a small number of windmill manufacturers in Australia.

A more common sight, now, is the wind turbine, usually in massive wind farms. Across western Victoria, wind farms are growing in number (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wind_farms_in_Victoria). This photo was taken near the Moorabool Wind Farm, south of Ballan in western Victoria ( https://mooraboolwindfarm.com/).

I liked the juxtaposition, in this view across the landscape, of the old windmills still pumping away with their newer, brasher and bigger 'cousins' visible in the background.
Wonderful composition
