Poignant indeed. My grandfather was in the Anzacs and fought in Gallipoli. Sadly he died before I was born, but not in the war. He emigrated to Soviet Russia and died in the gulags under Stalin's purge, but that is another long story.
Thankyou for your comment. One of my grandfathers also fought at Gallipoli in the Light Horse and went on to serve in WW2. He and my great uncle led the ANZAC parade for many years.

Yes it is great. I usually go to smaller gatherings but as I am now living so close to the Shrine it's an easy walk. It was a glorious Autumn morning. We left at 4:30am and were amazed at how many people were already there. @annied
