Little Corellas are thought to pair for life and will start breeding at the start of a long period of rain. The nest site is a suitable tree hollow, lined with shavings of wood. This is normally used for several years in row. Both sexes incubate the eggs and both care for the young chicks. The chicks hatch naked and totally dependent on their parents.
Aren't they gorgeous, but so noisy. We never used to get them here until a few years ago. there was a huge bushfire on the Myall Lakes and they just moved in to the bay and never went home.
@teiko years ago I walked into a small aviary with about a dozen long billed corellas that had been hand raised - they loved human attention so much the minute I stepped in 3 0r 4 of them flew onto me and just squawked and nuzzled for attention - cuddles galore
Such beautiful birds, and they seem to be really affectionate towards each other. Love how they stand out so brightly from the gray background of the tree branches.
